The Ponies

“Sometimes being short is a little depressing. You can never expect to become a super model, and forget about reaching the top shelf. But when it comes to the pony barn, that’s when you shine…

IMG_6499 Meet; MORGAN

Show name: Just Morgan
Barn name: Morgan
Breed: pony/mutt thing
Age: old
Height: 13.2hh

Morgan and I have been together for over two years now, and he’s definitely my all time favorite pony! We have a very unique relationship… We understand each other in a way that I can’t explain, and I’m not sure I even comprehend. He’s a once in a lifetime pony, and I’m so thankful I was able to be his partner before he is sentenced to retirement, (which wont be for a while, by the way). Sometimes being his rider can be frustrating because he’s so stubborn and pushy. I can appreciate him wanting to do things his own way though, and respect him for that. I think in return he respects me back, and that’s why normally he listens to what I tell him. We most certainly don’t always get along, but even our bad days are great because just being with him makes your life that much better.

Meet; HOUDINI

Show name: Houdini
Barn name: Houdi
Breed: Welsh Pony
Age: 9-years-old
Height: 13.1hh

I’m not even going to lie, Houdi is one of my favorite ponies to ride. I’m a very laid back person, so having a pony that’s equivalent to my personality to ride is so sweet. I love the fact that he never makes anything into a big deal, and just goes with the flow. He may be extremely lazy, but that’s the perfect kind of pony. Lazy is sometimes annoying because it makes you work so much harder, but knowing that my legs are so much stronger because of it makes up for the annoyance.  Houdi is the kind of pony that you can just get on and do whatever you want without having to worry about any drama, I think that’s a rare thing and makes him that much more fun to ride.

4 Meet; DIXIE

Show name: N/A
Barn name: Dixie
Breed: Quarter Pony
Age: 10-years-old
Height: 14.2hh

Dixie is the most special pony I’ve ever meet. I began riding her in the winter of 2008, she didn’t have a rider and was just standing around in a pasture getting fat. I was able to ride her for a few months and make a lot of progress with getting her back into work, but then she developed a bad case of thrush in two of her hooves. She’s been out of commission for most of the year, but I’m now slowly bringing her back into work. She’s easily the sweetest pony you will ever meet in your entire life! She has the best ground manners of any pony, or horse for that matter, I’ve ever ridden. The thing I like most about riding her is that she’s simply a happy pony. Riding her actually makes me feel happier. While she may not be the fanciest mover of all time, she could make some lucky kid an amazing first pony!

8Meet; RAMBLER

Show name: Rags to Riches
Barn name: Rambler
Breed: Appy Pony
Age: n/a
Height: 12.1hh

Unlike the rest of the ponies, Rambler isn’t a school pony. He’s currently leased by an awesome little rider who does a fantastic job showing him in crossrails. He’s a great pony, and normally I hack him just as a refresher and keep him from getting too forward. Rambler is a perfect kids pony, but does like to move forward, unlike ponies like Houdi who drag along. He’s a great mover though, and is super honest about everything. Like me and Morgan, Rambler and his rider are great together and have such similar personalities.
